Dyslexia Assessment

Dyslexia Assessment in Melbourne and Ballarat

Dyslexia can cause some frustration for those who have it, especially with the misconceptions surrounding the disorder. It can be difficult to find the right help, and stressful when seeking an assessment. It’s important to go with a reputable organisation with plenty of experience. At the Dyslexia and SLD Assessments Victoria, we offer dyslexia, SLD and educational testing and assessments with highly qualified experts in the field and a supportive approach. We offer this testing for both children and adults.

Description of the assessment:

The assessment allows for the identification of any Specific Learning Disorder/ dyslexia and the degree and nature of any learning needs in children and adults. This is generally a very good place to begin as the test provides clarity as to what the issues are; which informs as to what support is required and provides a base-line for subsequent monitoring and review of progress.

The test consists of a comprehensive cognitive ability (i.e., Wechsler Intelligence Scale; WISC-V or WAIS-IV) and educational achievement assessment (i.e., includes selected subtests from the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test; WIAT-III, together with other educational achievement tests).

The assessment involves the following:

a)      Background Information provided by parent (please see attached form)

b)      Assessment of cognitive strengths and weaknesses (takes about 90 minutes)

c)       Educational Achievement tests which includes: Spelling, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Handwriting, Numeracy/ Math’s (also takes about 90 minutes)

d)     Verbal feedback to you on the day of the assessment as to results

Therefore, you need to allow 3 to 4 hours of face to face assessment time.

All the test results and recommendations are provided to you in a comprehensive written report.

The written report is normally available within two weeks of the assessment.
