D-SLD-A of Victoria conduct cognitive, neurological, educational, and perceptual assessment, which serves to identify the degree and the nature of any learning difficulties.   This then forms the basis for learning support and the on-going case management.

Assessment provides an objective summary of an individual’s cognitive (thinking and perceptual) abilities and assist in identifying areas of relative cognitive strength as well as relative cognitive weakness.  All people have relative strengths and weaknesses.

As well as indicating overall general ability, verbal and nonverbal (Perceptual) ability, the assessment also measures working memory and processing speed so that differences between these can also be assessed.  Assessment provides formal assessment information as well as enabling informal clinical observations within a relatively structured framework of required tasks and behavior.

Tests of ability and achievement can also be used to predict future academic achievement, future performance within occupations, and as a measure of a basis for matching abilities and behavioral dispositions to specific work requirements.
