Dr John Ryan is an expert in cognitive and educational assessments. The assessments are primarily used to identify dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties (SLDs). The assessments are also used to identify the educational needs of children or to provide workplace adjustments for adults. Dr Ryan also has an interest in using cognitive-state assessments as an objective measure of fitness for work. His expertise has been attained from his PhD research, which investigated possible causes of dyslexia and SLDs, and from extensive experience assessing children and adults in Australia and abroad.
Dr Ryan’s psychologist experience & qualifications
Dr Ryan has experience working in the role of psychologist within the Private and Public Education systems within Victoria and Tasmania. He has also taught psychological assessment for many years at the post graduate level and he has been an Honorary Fellow of Melbourne University. He is the author of publications on dyslexia within the highly prestigious scientific journal – Vision Research. His academic experience included the coordination of the Master of Professional Psychology; an APAC accredited course for several years.
Dr Ryan is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). He also holds membership with the British Psychological Society and has teacher qualifications; and is registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching with Working with Children registration. He is a registered supervisor with AHPRA and has extensive experience supervising Provisionally Registered Psychologists.
Dr Ryan became a Registered Psychologist (‘Family Consultant’) with the Family Law Court of Australia and approved pursuant to Regulation 7 to undertake assessments for the Family Law Court.
